Mistakes happen, what are you gonna do? Admit your faults and carry on, I suppose 🙂
I don’t know what I was smoking when I filmed last week’s episode of Game of Tones, but I gave some inaccurate facts about the differences between Parametric and Semi-Parametric EQ’s. I’d like to correct those mistakes with this article.
Here’s what I said:
“The only difference between Parametric and Semi-Parametric EQ is that with Semi-Parametric the EQ points aren’t fixed, so I can grab any number I want.”
That’s totally false. I have no idea where that came from – maybe that’s what happens when you roll on autopilot in front of the camera!
The real difference is that Semi-Parametric EQ allows you to choose the frequency and gain, while Parametric EQ allows you to also choose the bandwidth as well. That means that default EQ plugin in your DAW = Parametric. That sweepable mid on your bass or amp = Semi-Parametric.
I’m man enough to admit my mistakes, so I apologize for the confusion. And I’d also like to say a special thank you to Lee Jacobson for pointing this out to me!
